With the temperature warming and the snow retreating, spring is the perfect season to start spending more time outdoors.

Spring is an ideal time to begin preparing your yard for the upcoming growing season or perhaps finish those chores you didn’t have time for in the fall. That can involve raking any leaves or branches that fell during the winter, bringing out the deck furniture or yard decor, and even clearing gutters and eavestroughs in preparation for spring showers.

With birds returning and animals emerging from hibernation, spring is a great time to get out for a hike. Even though provincial and regional parks aren't yet open, local trail systems are available year-round and are quieter during April and early May as there aren’t as many tourists around like there is during the summer.

Other outdoor activities for you to consider are bike riding, doing yoga or stretch sessions, and even meditation. With so many different colours emerging, perhaps it is a good time where you live to do some nature photography or painting. It may even be a good time to try a new sport like frisbee, tennis, badminton or pickleball.

Don’t forget, spring is a time of renewal! Consider beautifying your yard with new plants or flowers, or maybe there’s some outdoor renovations or projects you’ve been wanting to do. Spring is a perfect time to begin such activities and we all know how short summer can be in Western Canada.
