Are you in need of an energy boost?

Sometimes it’s what you eat and not how much you sleep that makes you feel groggy during the day. Even with eight hour or more of sleep every night, you can still feel tired because you’re not eating the right foods.

Certain seasonal foods can help support steady energy levels because they provide a combination of complex carbohydrates, fiber, protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals.

For instance, asparagus, peas and strawberries are great seasonal foods to eat in the spring. Asparagus is rich in folate, which helps your body convert food into energy, while peas provide fiber and plant protein for sustained energy. Strawberries, meanwhile, are high in Vitamin C and antioxidants that support overall vitality.

Foods perfect in the summer are watermelon, blueberries and tomatoes. Watermelon helps prevent dehydration, a common cause of fatigue, while blueberries contain antioxidants that may support cognitive performance. Tomatoes provide vitamins and hydration with few calories.

When it comes to fall, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and applesvare ideal seasonal foods. Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of complex carbohydrates for long-lasting energy, while pumpkin contains fiber and nutrients that help maintain stable blood sugar. Apple fiber slows digestion and helps avoid energy crashes.

Of course, these foods are available all year and you don’t need to wait for that certain season to consume them. These are just examples of food you may find at your local farmer’s market throughout spring, summer and fall.
