Getting your nails done is a normal routine for millions of Canadians, but did you know doing so also comes with an array of benefits?
A survey on grooming habits shows 70 per cent of Canadian women get their nails done once per month or more. As of 2026, there are nearly 50,000 nail salons in the country and the industry has shown consistent, steady growth.
While there is no specific national statistic covering the exact number of men who get their nails done in Canada, industry trends indicate that men's nail care is a growing market, with men increasingly visiting salons for grooming and hygiene.
Visiting a nail technician comes with many practical, mental, and hygienic benefits. It improves nail health by moisturizing the cuticles, shaping the nail to prevent breakage, and removing dead skin and hangnails.
During a manicure or pedicure, nails and surrounding skin are deep cleaned and exfoliated, which helps remove dirt, bacteria buildup, and dead skin. A nail technician may also be able to notice early signs of fungus, infections, and abnormal nail changes.
Many nail services include hand or foot massages, warm water soaking, and lotions. That brings stress relief and relaxation, and well-groomed nails can also provide a boost in confidence.
Getting your nails done also serves as a form of self-expression. There's many ways to have them done with unique styles, shapes and colours.
