Red light therapy is everywhere! Make sure you’re using the right tool.

LED light therapy is a huge buzz word right now, but what exactly is it and what does it do?

According to Kelowna’s Dr. David Hatton, who specializes in naturopathic care, red light therapy has different uses depending on the wavelength you’re using. Those wavelengths go from 630 nanometers all the way up to 820 and beyond.

It can be used to help with anti-aging, so targeting the skin itself with fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to target inflammation. If someone has joint pain, you’re going higher into the infrared and that’s going to help because it gets deeper into the tissue.

What should you be on the lookout for?

A product that is Health Canada approved. If you’re getting something from overseas that may not be as good, the last thing you want to do is buy a bulb that is painted red. You want to make sure all the products you're getting are going to give you the nanometer wavelengths you’re trying to achieve.

Are people seeing results?

Hatton explains if you are consistent and you’re diligent with the product, it can get you some amazing results! But it’s just like skin care - you have to give it 12 weeks of consistent use to get the return.
