Spending time outdoors comes with tremendous benefits, but many Canadians aren’t getting out enough! Even if it is just for 20 minutes each day, you should strive to spend at least a little portion of your day outside.
Benefits to spending time outdoors include reducing stress and anxiety, improving your mood, boosting focus and creativity, increasing sleep quality, improving concentration, memory, problem-solving and creative thinking, as well as help you feel calmer and more grounded.
Some of the most popular outdoor activities include hiking, walking in parks, gardening, camping, cycling, outdoor yoga, and playing sports.
If you're looking for low-effort ways to spend a little time outdoors, other options include walking around the block, sit on your front step, porch, balcony, or in your yard, drink your coffee, tea, or water outside instead of inside, or reading a few pages of a book on a bench or outside your door.
You could also consider listening to music, a podcast, or an audiobook while sitting outdoors, watching the sunrise or sunset, stretching outside for a few minutes, or spending some time looking for birds, squirrels, insects, or other wildlife.
Remember, Canada has no shortage of provincial or regional parks. They offer services such as hiking trails, camping, barbecue pits, and even spots for a picnic lunch.
Spending a little time outdoors can go a long way when it comes to your overall health!
