Although summertime is best known for getting outdoors to enjoy the warm weather, there will be days when rainy weather will keep you and your family inside, but don’t fret! There is plenty to do indoors to chase the boredom away.  

Puzzles are a great way to keep yourself occupied. There are traditional jigsaw puzzles, but others such as crosswords, sudoku, and Rubik’s cubes. Puzzles serve as ways to exercise your short and long-term memory, as well as benefit cognitive functions such as reasoning, pattern recognition, and problem-solving.  

Rainy weather is the perfect time to curl up in a cozy blanket and read a good book. Reading also improves brain function, along with builds vocabulary and communications, and expands knowledge. Most libraries have online systems allowing the public to borrow e-books right from home.  

Video games are also a common way to pass the time. They come in a variety of types such as action, adventure, story-driven progression, simulations, strategy, puzzles and sports. Video games can provide a social connection, improve hand-eye coordination, and provide stress relief and relaxation. Don’t forget, moderation is key.  

Being stuck inside is the perfect time to learn a new skill such as cooking or baking. It can be an ideal opportunity to introduce new foods in yours or your family’s lives. Perhaps there’s a recipe you’ve been wanting to try? If not, many new recipes can be found online.  

Movies and TV shows are a favourite pastime for Canadians. They come in a variety of genres and content suitable for all ages. Movies and TV shows are a form of entertainment but can also be educational. With so many online streaming platforms available, you’re likely to find something to watch on one of them.
